A sentence for you: “If I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I’d…” And forget about what you think you should or ought to do…but try instead to imagine something “larger” than that; something as yet “unthunk.” (How’s that for a challenge?)

“If I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I’d give myself a million dollars!” I said.
Robert snorted. “If *I* had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I’d make myself the ruler of the whole world.”
I thought again. “Actually, if I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I’d make it so Hitler never lived.”
Robert shook his head. “If I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I’d make it so nobody was poor or starving or sick.”
“If I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I’d make it so people could fly.”
“If I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I would make people stronger, faster, and smarter, so we could learn faster and go farther.”
Then a quiet voice spoke up: “If I had a magic wand, and could wave it only once, I would make it so that the existence of every being on this planet will have actually mattered to the rest of the universe when the entire planet is dead and gone.”
Robert and I looked left, looked right. We turned all around. No one.
“Down here,” said the cat. “Now feed me, slaves.”
